Determination of metalloproteins in human serum from diabetic patients
Ricardo Ernesto Verni
University of Cincinnati
Metallomics is a relatively new discipline, also considered an omics science along with proteomics and genomics. Determination of metalloproteins in different biological systems grant us a powerful tool to understand several biochemical processes, and predict in some cases possible pathological events. The development of new analytical methods and techniques is relevant to achieve metalloprotein determination. The objective of the project is to identify and sequence any metal bind protein that is expressed in any biochemical pathways involved in the diabetes pathology, in order to recognize them as possible biomarkers of the disease. To achieve this, training in coupling separation and mass spectrometry techniques will be necessary, along with protein sequencing techniques and use of database software. Any satisfactory results would be published and disseminated in our country and abroad, and it would allow our group of work to open new lines of research.
