The pupils at the rural school “Almirante Guillermo Brown” from El Fuertecito, Córdoba, took part with their production and obtained as a prize an educational trip to Buenos Aires to take place next February.
The Rural School Magazine competition “My people – my place” was held in the framework of the 2009 edition of the Support Program for Rural Schools, involving 126 rural primary schools from all over the country. Each school sent the Bunge y Born Foundation magazines made by the pupils under the supervision of their teachers.
Each magazine reflected the intense dedication and hard work of the pupils, be it in the creative and original texts written for each section, the headings, the illustrations, the games section and the advertising. They also revealed the commitment of the whole community in the way local material was used to produce content.
The Jury was made up of Federico Böttcher Sorondo, Editorial Director and Iván Racedo, General Producer from InterCole magazine, Marta Prada, former editor of Billiken magazine, Irene García Ferré, formerly producer of Anteojito magazine and Silvana Rocchi, Director of the Colegio Marín of Buenos Aires.
After a long and arduous effort to identity a winner, the pupils from the Almirante Guillermo Brown school in the district of El Fuertecito in Córdoba were chosen. The features praised by the jury were:
- Excellent cover: visually striking, well illustrated and meets the criteria. The creation of an isologo is just right for the heading, accompanied by a subheading and caption.
- Good contents and staff list, creatively designed.
- Good use and variety of graphic techniques: boxes, photos, illustrations, captions, headings, bold print and “the corner” at the foot of each page.
- The ability to meet all the criteria set and put together a valuable document to as a testimonial of the school’s centenary.
- The magazine recovers and transmits the basic values of society. The interview subject is praiseworthy for its appreciation of effort and staying-power.
- The involvement of pupils, teachers, parents, neighbors and the community in general.
- The annex with the “behind the scenes” sections is an excellent example of how the work was carried out and the amount of effort invested in the production.
The prize is an educational trip to Buenos Aires for a maximum of 30 pupils and three teachers to be held in February 2010 according to the school calendar so that children and teachers do not miss school days.
Special mentions for specific sections were made for eight schools, whose prize is a year’s subscription to Intercole magazine for their pupils. |
