THE FULBRIGHT – BUNGE Y BORN FOUNDATION GRANTS HAVE BEEN AWARDED
 

The Fulbright – Bunge y Born Foundation Scholarship Grants are awarded on a once-only basis to young scientists working on their doctoral theses so that they may complete these at universities or research centers in the United States. Each award includes a return air ticket, a daily allowance and health insurance.

The selection committee included representatives of the Fulbright Commission (responsible for the administrative aspects) and the Bunge y Born Foundation.

Fulbright - Bunge y Born Foundation 2010

- Chemist, Romina Brasca, from the area of Organic Chemistry at the Chemistry Department of the National University of the Litoral. Her three-month scholarship will allow her to develop her project on "Towards the total synthesis of biologically important indoles, carbazoles and carbolines using Diles-Alder reactions as key steps”, which she will carry out at the Department of Chemistry, Dartmouth College, New Hampshire.
- Degree in Chemistry. Gastón Corthey, from the Institute of Physico-chemical Theoretical and Applied Research (Instituto de Investigaciones Fisicoquímicas Teóricas y Aplicadas - INIFTA), La Plata, Province of Buenos Aires. His three-month scholarship will allow him to develop his project on the "Structure of Gold-Silver Bimetallic Nanoparticles at Atomic Resolution", which he will carry out at the National Center for Electron Microscopy, University of California, Berkeley.

- Degree in Physics. Elías Costa, from the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences, University of Buenos Aires. The three-month scholarship will allow him to develop his project on "The gateway to consciousness: a characterization of awareness in visual perception”, which he will carry out at the Leon Levy and Shelby White Center for Mind, Brain and Behavior, Rockefeller University, New York.

- Degree in Civil Engineering, Marcos Montoro, from the National University of Córdoba. The six-month scholarship will allow him to develop his project "Recovery of immiscible organic fluids from heterogeneous soils with high fine particle content”, which he will carry out at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Wisconsin-Madison.

-Degree in Biological Sciences, Julia Qüesta, from the Center of Photosynthesis and Biochemical Studies (Centro de Estudios Fotosintéticos y Bioquímicos- CEFOBI), Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry from the National University of Rosario. The three-month scholarship will allow her to develop her project "Analysis of Mutador transposon activation in maize by UV-B radiation”, which she will carry out at the Department of Biological Sciences, Stanford University, Stanford, California.

- Biologist María Victoria Recouvreux, from the Laboratory of Hypophysiary Regulation at the Institute of Biology and Experimental Medicine (Laboratorio de Regulación Hipofisaria, Instituto de Biología y Medicina Experimental – IbyME). The four-month scholarship will allow her to develop her project on the "Role of latent TGFβ binding proteins in pituitary homeostasis and tumorogenesis”, which she will carry out at the Department of Cell Biology, New York University School of Medicine, New York.

- Degree in Mathematics José Luis Romero, from the Math Department at the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires. The six-month scholarship will allow him to develop his project "Sampling in general spline-type spaces and atomic descompositions", which he will carry out at the Norbert Wiener Center for Harmonic Analysis and Applications, University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland.
