SIX POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS WERE AWARDED THE FULBRIGHT – BUNGE Y BORN FOUNDATION GRANTS 2008 TO PURSUE THEIR RESEARCH IN THE US AND COMPLETE THEIR DOCTORATE UPON RETURN.

Adler, Conrado
A biochemist and graduate of the National University of Tucuman, Adler has been awarded a grant to study at Harvard Medical School for six months in the department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.
Project: The structure and genetic characteristics of antibiotics produced in isolation from the surrounding environment.

Castro, María Ana
With a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires, Castro has been awarded a grant to study at the University of Florida for three months.
Project:The development of computational tools to design noble materials based on liquid crystals.

Dantur Juri, María Julia
An specialist in biological sciences with an orientation towards zoology who graduated from the National University of Tucuman, Dantur Juri has been awarded a grant to study at the State of New York Department of Health for five months.
Project: The phylo-geography and genetic population of the malaria strain Anopheles pseudopunctipennis in Argentina.

León, Paula Gabriela León
graduated with a degree in Food engineering from the National University of Quilmes. He has been awarded a grant to study at the Department of Food Science and Technology at Cornell University.
Project: Edible films based on gelane gum and additives with L-(+)ascorbic acid as a container for fruit and vegetables in order to extend their useful life.

Merino, María Cecilia
A biochemist from the National University of Cordoba, Merino will study at the Seattle Children's Hospital Research Institute for a period of six months.
Project: The role of B1 peritoneal cells in the development of the Chagas disease.

Pagliero, Romina Julieta
A chemist from the National University of Cordoba, Pagliero’s grant will enable her to study for four months at the Southern Illinois Dep. of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Project: CADD studies on tetrahydroquinoline benzinesulfonyles derivatives with the Plasmodium falciparum DXR enzyme. Research on new prototypes as anti-infectious agents.
