HEALTH WORK IN AVIA TERAI, CHACO (AS FROM 2011)

This is a medium-term project developed by Bunge Argentina together with the Bunge y Born Foundation, which has extensive experience in this area thanks to the vast number of research projects, training, grants and subsidies it has developed since 1998.

This initiative includes the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the Chagas disease in children and young people under 18, and aims to reduce the mortality rates associated with the disease.

The health project aims to:

  • Establish a social communication strategy related to the Chagas disease in the district of Avia Terai;
  • Implement an anti-vector attack phase followed by consolidation involving a local vigilance and control system aimed at keeping down the infestation of T. infestans;
  • Offer the population diagnosed with Chagas disease etiological treatment;
  • Explore the changes in cardiovascular health in the people affected.
Equipment for the Roldán Hospital

Through the Bunge y Born Foundation, Bunge Argentina donated a generator to the Rural Hospital no. 61 Dr. Manuel Alberto Escalante de Larrechea in the Roldán district in the province of Santa Fe. Before this took place, the hospital board undertook to finish the electrical and civil reforms necessary for the equipment to be installed and work properly.

The electrical generator will provide energy for the new areas of the Hospital which have been built thanks to the contributions made by the Cooperative Association of the Hospital and the Municipality of Roldán as well as the subsidies from the Ministry of Social Development. These areas include a clinical analysis laboratory, a physiotherapy rehab center, restrooms, administrative areas, waiting rooms, and an area with a state-of-the-art mammogram machine.

Good Nutritional Practices Program

Bunge is supporting this initiative which is being spearheaded by the Agribusiness and Food Program of the University of Buenos Aires and aims to establish the consumption trends of different foodstuffs according to quality and price in Argentina.

Research on healthy eating and the pending challenges in public policy in the sector are also part of the project. One example is the book “Buenas prácticas para una alimentación saludable de los argentinos” (Good practices for healthy eating in Argentina) presenting the first results of the project which covers two major areas: the first analyzes the gaps in consumption as regards the way Argentines eat and what would be required for a healthy diet, evaluating the meaning of the results both for productive chains and for public policy making. Secondly, it evaluates the nutritional quality of 600 foodstuffs according to a matrix built for this purpose.
