The Jury
The researchers selected were Dr. Eduardo Arzt for the Bunge y Born Foundation Prize, and Dr. Irene Lucía Ennis for the Prize for Young Scientists, who are both involved in basic research.
Dr. Arzt is studying the responses that cells have to different stimuli and has made a major contribution to neuro-endocrinology by inhibiting the growth of hypofisiary tumors with the description of a new gene within the cells involved in the development of this type of tumor.
Dr. Ennis is investigating the responses to the stretching or enlargement of the heart and how this is related to angiotensin, the sodium-hydrogen exchanger, the reactive oxygen species and the development of cardiac hypertrophy. |
